Welcome to AWARE Online!

Over population, habitat destruction, endangered wildlife – the story has been told before.  However, there are many projects in place today that strive to protect the environment and it’s wild inhabitants as well as educate future generations about sustainable growth where natural areas are taken into account.  When the last tree is gone, what will we breathe?

Africa Wild Aid, Rehabilitation and Education was created by Liz Roodt (South Africa) and Nicole Geller (Germany) in 2005.  After years of experience volunteering with wildlife sanctuaries and rehabilitation centres in Southern and Central Africa, they realised a need to support such organisations.

Many centres have enough financial support to be able to carry out their own fundraising activities.  However, a number of wildlife rehabilitation centres and sanctuaries are operated by tireless individuals who spend personal finances on running costs.  There is usually little money left for luxuries like a fundraiser’s salary.

And so, AWARE was created – to identify these organisations in need of funding but unable to generate it personally.  The projects endorsed by AWARE are those who have demonstrated sincere dedication to wildlife conservation through years of hard work in specific areas like endangered mammal and bird rehabilitation and release as well as environmental and humane education endeavours.

AWARE (South Africa) aims to add more organisations to it’s portfolio over time in order to fully support wildlife conservation in southern and central Africa.
